Obituary of Andrea Maltrud

Andrea J. Maltrud, 47, of Cambridge died Monday June 25, 2012 after a 14-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Andrea Jane Maltrud was born August 7, 1964 in Cambridge, Minn. to Dave and Marlys (Flink) Fast. She was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1982. She then attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986. During the summer of 1984 she met her future husband, Paul Maltrud, while working for the summer at Fair Hills Resort near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. On August 15, 1987 Annie married Paul at First Baptist Church in Cambridge. Together they taught in the McAllen, Texas, Chokio, Minnesota, and Hawley, Minnesota school districts. In 1993 they moved back to Cambridge where Annie taught 2nd grade at Cambridge Elementary and was a beloved teacher to countless students. Together, she and Paul raised their two children Amy (20) and Erik (17). Annie loved attending the many concerts, dramas, and ball games that they were involved in. Annie especially loved the summers when her family could just hang out together. She loved to read, bike, walk and play golf with family and friends. She also enjoyed the many Bible studies, dramas, small group studies and ministries that she was part of at First Baptist Church. In 1997 she was part of the first Day Camp missions group to travel to Kremenchug, Ukraine to help continue the newly formed relationship with Spring of Life Church. This trip proved significant in Annie's life as it brought out a profound love of the people of Spring of Life and a great love for the people of Ukraine in general. She eventually made nine trips to Ukraine, some as part of Day Camp missions, one with a work team to help with construction of their new church, and a couple of visits just to see the people who became known to her as her "second family." During the 14 months of her illness, Annie was under the loving and professional care of the short-stay nurses, doctors and staff at Cambridge Medical Center. She thoroughly enjoyed visiting with all who worked in short-stay and always knew that the care and counseling from doctors Morar, Haupert, and Mork were the best to be found anywhere. Annie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Paul, daughter, Amy, and son, Erik, all of Cambridge; mother, Marlys Fast of Cambridge; brother, David (Kari) Fast and their children Elizabeth, David, and Kathleen of Grand Rapids, Michigan; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Carole Maltrud of Detroit Lakes; brother-in-law, Karl (Cheryl) Maltrud and their children Rorik and Brodie of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law Kathy Maltrud of Cambridge; sister-in-law Jill Maltrud of St. Paul; and by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Dave Fast; infant brother; grandparents Margaret and Carl Flink; grandparents Judith and David Fast. Annie will be always be remembered for her personal and abiding faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which was so enriched by her family and very dear friends.
