Obituary of Michael Ammend

Michael Eugene Ammend, 67, of Cambridge died unexpectedly on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Cambridge Medical Center. He was born on June 8, 1945 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Eugene and Colleen (Hicks) Ammend. Mike lived a few years in Northeast Minneapolis before the family moved to Moundsview and he graduated from Moundsview High School in 1963. In June 1963 he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in March 1967. On April 22, 1967 he was united in marriage to June Chadbourne at The Cathedral in Boston, Massachusetts. The couple first made their home in Somerville, MA and after a year moved to the Roseville/St. Anthony, MN area. In 1970 they moved to Ham Lake and in 1976 the family moved to Onamia where Mike began working at the Mille Lacs County Jail. In 1988 they moved to Cambridge when Mike took the position of Jail Supervisor at the Isanti County Jail. Mike would serve in several roles with the Isanti County Sheriff's Department, and retired as Sheriff in May of 2009. After retiring, Mike and June spent time at Fort Myers Beach in Florida in the winter, and summers at their home in Edgewood. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the lake, cutting wood, gardening, and anything else that involved being outdoors. He was a true family man, devoted husband and father, and enjoyed the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Julie Hicks, parents, and sister Jeneen Doskey. Mike is survived by his wife June of Cambridge, children Mark Ammend of Blaine, Lori Ammend of Cambridge, Scott and wife Charlene Ammend of Mora, Susan and husband Lance Goranson of Princeton, five grandchildren Brooke Ammend, Nicholas Ammend, Nicole Ammend, Taylor Goranson, Paige Goranson, as well as several other relatives and friends.
