Obituary of Lois M. Smith

Lois Mae Smith, 91, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West. Lois was born in Henriette, MN to Einard and Mabel (Moline) Hovinen on May 10, 1925. She joined brother, Robert. The family lived in Stanchfield, MN. Lois graduated from Braham High School and worked as a bookkeeper for Investor’s Syndicate in Minneapolis. She married Arthur Smith on November 23, 1944 in Stanchfield. Art and Lois made their home in Cambridge where they raised four children. Lois worked at the Cambridge Medical Clinic as a bookkeeper for 20 years. Lois has been a member of First Baptist Church in Cambridge for over 60 years, volunteering in several capacities and, for a short time, serving as the church secretary. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Hovinen and her sister-in-law Corine Hovinen. She is survived by Arthur, her husband of 71 years; her children Barbara and husband Richard Johnson, Pauline and husband Bruce Swanson, Timothy and wife Julie Smith, Laurie and husband Craig West; 26 grandchildren and spouses; 20 great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends. The family of Lois wishes to extend sincere thanks to her caregivers at GracePointe Crossing as well as her doctors and nurses at the Cambridge Medical Center. All have been a great support over the years. A devoted wife and loving mother, Lois will be remembered for her generous spirit in caring for others and in finding the best in everyone.
